A Good Excuse for a Holiday!

I was reminded by Syd’s actions the other day that I definitely need a PR/promotions manager.  As my husband is not a writer, I tend to mildly smile at his suggestions and do my own thing. At that moment I caught a glimpse of how he could help me in my writing projects. When I showed him my latest devotional “Lent and Easter” he said, “Why don’t you order another 20 copies and give them away to anyone at church who wants them. I will stand up and tell the people what it is about.” Our Pentecostal church doesn’t usually celebrate Lent in quite the same way as the more traditional churches, so an explanation was needed.

Well, I did just that. To my surprise there was quite a lot of interest so I had to order another 20 copies to meet the demand. It was then that I started to think about the relationship of us writers to the world around us. We sit in our comfortable caves writing and scribbling absorbed in our world only dashing out to pick up the kids and fulfill urgent appointments, all the while still thinking about our writing world. I’m sure it’s not only me.

We need to get out! This will be my year of travel. Damn the expense! My agenda starts in March with Australia, then the Norfolk Broads, Ireland and Madeira. Yes, sometimes I will be taking notes but mostly absorbing other cultures, people groups and their ways of doing things. And having plain old fun! I hope that this will bring me a richer tapestry to draw from when I do start writing again.

Just to note that one unexpected brownie point is that Jesus did say it is more blessed to give than to receive. So although I gain in that more people will become familiar with more writing, it is great that I am able to give a free gift to my fellow Christians at church and pray that God will bless them as they read and reflect on “Lent and Easter”

  1. Love it Rosalie. I am going into my writing cave today too. Well done for remembering to do the Lent thing. I usually think I will, forget, remember half way through, have a bit of a go and then probably eat some chocolate and forget the whole thing! It is a special time to draw close to Him, who did so much at that time for us. Bless you on your travels. Enjoy.

  2. Lovely post, Rosalie! God has given us, ACW writers a great idea !! Why do we writers have to stress with marketing issues when the Lord has given us a community? Yes, you gave the books free but next time, members will be happy to pay!! Anyway, do enjoy your trips and may the Lord use it to inspire and bless your future writings. Amen.Blessings.

  3. So true, Rosalie. I have been thinking the same. We can only talk about our books on our blogs just so much. I've signed up for a new course called 'Hearing from God in our art'. Hopefully it will spur a few new ideas for me on my blog.

  7. A lovely encouraging post Rosalie. I always carry a couple of copies of my book to give away as a blessing to someone God leads me to. I did just that at a wonderful conference we had at church at the weekend, and they said it was just the answer they were looking for. Enjoy your travels. Looking forward to hearing your good news. God bless.
