Opportunities Abound by Wendy H. Jones

I seriously don’t know where the months are going - I looked up and it was the first of July, except it was 11pm and I should have written this blog in advance ready to go out this morning.  Therefore I’m squeaking home by the skin of my teeth. I hope you will forgive me. You see, life has been busy recently. After a hiatus of two years during Covid craziness and lockdowns, speaking and book signing engagements are coming in thick and fast. Last weekend alone I had 4 in 3 days. Whilst I am grateful, and indeed feel blessed, it means time flies past in a flash. I’m getting used to juggling balls and I am sure you are too. I am also getting good at working out how to best use the time when I am in various places.

For the past two days I have been in Edinburgh as I was invited to do a reading at Noir at the Bar. I read from my book, someone won a free copy and I signed a few copies for sale. I heard other authors, met some lovely people and bought some books. All in all it was a great time and it felt good to be with other authors again. The image is me reading from Killer's Curse.

While I was in Edinburgh I took the opportunity to spend a couple of days in the Rare Manuscripts Reading Room at the National Library of Scotland.  Wow. To know I was holding in my hands magazines and newspapers from 1822-1838 just blew my mind. I learned a lot about the political and cultural situation of the time. In contrast, I also attended First Minister's Question Time at the Scottish Parliament. This gave me an idea of the workings of the Scottish Parliament and the political and social situation in current times. Both are useful for two very different series.

So, to conclude, I would encourage you to explore each and every opportunity that presents itself and see where it leads. I feel like life as an author is returning to normal even in the midst of rising covid cases and even if it means the days are blurring and the blog comes extremely late in the day. I am sure you will forgive me. Now, I’m off to get some sleep before another full day of book signing tomorrow. I’m looking forward to Sunday - church and a day of rest. Yes, I did say rest. All work and no play makes Wendy an exhausted girl indeed.

  1. Life indeed gets so busy! But thank God for our brains that keep time subconsciously for us, as this blog came out eventually. Of course, you are forgiven. Now get set for that long needed deserved rest. Thanks. Blessings.
