A New Year Dawns by Wendy H. Jones

It's that time again when we stand on the cusp of a new year. The past is now firmly behind us, although the past two years are not ones we will forget in a hurry. On social media many people are saying they are not looking forward to the year ahead and I can understand that. Yet, I stare into the year full of hope both personally and professionally. As a writer, I have all sorts of projects planned. Yes, planned. Despite the fact most plans have been disrupted over the past two years I am still filled with hope and expectation that this year will be different. Why do I feel this way? - because I have put systems in place to reach my goals. Because I believe that I can achieve what I want to achieve. Yes, we are in the middle of a pandemic but the only person that can stop me doing what I want to do professionally is me.

As we stand, staring at the year ahead, what plans have you put in place for this year? What do you want to achieve and what systems have you put in place to achieve it? This can be professionally or personally. It can be the number of books you want to write, finding an agent, finding a publisher, increasing your word count, number of books you would like to sell, a financial goal. Whatever it is, or even they are, write them down large and put them in front of your desk so you can see them as you write. Believe you can reach them and that is the first step. Work out what other steps you need to take and write them down. This is the path which will lead to you achieving your goals.

I will finish by wishing you a very Happy New Year. Lang may yer lum reek wi other folks coal. May you achieve everything you want to achieve this year. I'm rooting for you. And remember, God is with you every step of the way. You are never alone.

  3. Thanks for the encouragement. My writing has taken a back seat since I became a full-time carer, but I'm determined that in 2022 I shall create slots, however small, where I can get going again. Happy New Year everyone.

  5. I was intrigued to find out we were standing on the *cups* [sic] of a New Year. Is that a Scottish custom? And what's in the cups - whisky? ;-)
