2022 - A Jubilee Year

‘Count off seven sabbath years—seven times seven years—so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land. 'Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan.’

The above scripture explains the Jewish Jubilee Year counted from the time the Israelites were given those instruction at Mount Sinai.  My understanding is you calculate that by dividing by seven the Hebraic year of 5782 which began in September.   And,year 49 is the sabbath and the Jubilee year is believed to be the first of the next seven years!!  This makes 2022 the 117th Jubilee Year since its inception, but that maybe too simplistic as these things are always up for contention.

Why am I writing about this?  I believe God has His timing in all things, so don’t think it is a coincidence that ACW is celebrating this year it’s first Jubilee Year.  Throughout the centuries the Lord has inspired writers and ACW has drawn them together to support each other.  Some have found success, but I guess the majority not, but it is our love, faith and trust that draws and keeps us writing in the belief that, be it the few, or many, the Lord will use what we have written to speak into a life, or lives.

I doubt any of the apostles thought their writings would last for more than a few generations and yet today they are probably more translations and people reading them than in previous centuries.  And, those words keep on giving, teaching and inspiring our lives.   I wonder if C.S. Lewis and Tolkien imagined their books would be read for decades, or that millions across the world would watch the film versions, and love their characters.

When our lives are steeped in the Lord and His Word my belief is whatever we set out to do for Him is never wasted. Our Vicar used to say, 'you can’t take your money with you, but you can send it on ahead’ so may our writing also be our legacy.  And I believe if you feel inspired by God to write, what He did for others He can do for you. As a third encouragement for me, is that this is my Jubilee Year for on 29^th July 1972 I gave my life to the Lord, and have had the most amazing fifty years.   A journey full of God’s interventions which I include in my novels which I portray in different plots, scenarios and characters’ lives. His instruction to me is: “2022 is not a year to push though, but wait and see what I can do.”  So as a Jubilee Year is one of redemption and provision, I feel it is time to revisit and revive those hopes, dreams, visions, promises, for what He has done before He can do it again!
