God Communicators

"Words! Words! Words! I’m so sick of words!

Don’t talk at all! Show me!"

Eliza Doolittle, My Fair Lady

It’s just over a week until Advent begins. I hope you’ll forgive me for mentioning it a week and a bit early, but, as my blog slot is 22nd, this is the last chance I’ll have until Advent is well underway.

Earlier this week, regarding someone who had an appointment at the hospital, I typed ‘let’s pray that they [the staff] will be god communicators.’

I realised my error, and corrected it to ‘good communicators’ before sending, but – as is often the way with typos – it made me think.

God Communicators.

Isn’t that what we, as Christians and as Christian Writers, seek to be?

As we read the Old Testament, we see God communicating His heart through people, and other people just not grasping it.

So He decided to come, in Jesus, and show people His heart.

And how did he choose to do that?

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

John 1:14

God chose to come as The Word.

The Logos.

The Communication.

The Divine Expression.

Words, from prophets etc, didn’t get through to people. The people were, perhaps a bit like Eliza Doolittle, sick of words. So God decided to show them; by coming as The Word (brilliant in more ways than one).

In a sense, perhaps we could say that God changed the font to help people understand.

He made the words look different.

"Show me!"

For God so loved the World, that He sent The Word…..

(based on John 3:16)

May our words this Advent catch echoes of The Word, the Ultimate God Communicator.

Communicating God's heart.

May they show Jesus.

Father God,

Thank You for placing within us a love of words, and of The Word.

Thank You for the privilege of calling us to be God Communicators.

All our words stem from The Word.

We pray that, in this coming season of Advent, You will help us to be God Communicators.

Using Your 'The Word' font, we pray that You will communicate through, and be communicated through, our words. Blogs, newsletters, poems, social media posts, talks....

May our words reflect and point to and show The Word.

Showing Jesus.

Amen

(Ironically, I've just made another typo which I've corrected before posting. I typed 'Showing Jesus' as 'Sowing Jesus'....was almost tempted to leave it in.)

  5. God communicators ... of the Word... I hope to be a God Commincator on Friday evening as I tell Mary's story from the viewpoint of Mary being a grandmother looking back at the happenings around her first born! This will be to ladies after crafting!

    1. What an interesting angle to take on Mary's story. I pray your talk goes well, and that you are enabled to be a God Communicator.
