IT'S MY NAME ON THE BOOK! BY OLUSOLA SOPHIA ANYANWU

IT’S MY NAME ON THE BOOK!

This post is a new awareness and a light shed on writing for me and maybe for you too.

Two weeks ago, my 7 grandchildren spent a week with us at our home. It taught me a very big lesson.  I had prayed against accidents, costly mistakes and had prayed for favour, God’s blessings and increased GRACE. Yes! Grace in particular.  After it all, I knew God had given me increased grace. It was like running a crèche:  I had attended to different needs, personalities, gender and ages. The youngest is 3 and the oldest is 10.It was a huge success because of God’s Grace.

I realise that in my writing journey, in its early stages, I didn’t ask for God’s grace with understanding and knowledge as I did with my grands.  I may have been unconsciously concerned with the glory of my name on the book, seeking my glory and not God’s - on thoughts of my writing out living me like Shakespeare!! What a large trap to fall in – To exchange God’s glory for our own. Psalm 102:18 says: Let this be recorded for a generation to come so that a people yet to be created may praise God.’

For my week with our grands, I give the glory to God for no accidents, regrets or lack. God gave us amazing strength, favour, protection and wisdom.   I write my new novel, ‘When Time Catches Up with You’, with this ‘new’ consciousness.  I have asked for INCREASED GRACE with knowledge and understanding! This is different. Now, I am looking at my characters in a new informed way with awareness. May God grant us all increased grace in our writing. ‘Ask and you will receive’, He says.

I ask questions like, who amongst my characters will reflect the glory of God. Am I giving God glory by marketing my books? After all, if we accept that God called us into this vocation, then He expects us to get it out for His glory, very much like the Great Commission! God used the experience of our looking after 7 grands successfully to speak to me, explicitly. I also hope you have found something here that will impact your life and writing.

Do you pray or ask for His Grace before, during and after your writing?
