A Paradigm Shift from “I can’t” to “I can” by Peculiar Medinus

This is a continuation of last month’s blog post inspired by Bishop Wayne Malcolm’s book, Economic Redemption: Why the Wealth of Nations Must Change Hands. The book ignited my creative side, prompting me to think about how some writers mirror nations rich in resources yet hindered by poverty of the mind. It struck me that a writer grappling with self-doubt requires a paradigm shift from "I can't" to "I can."

Particularly, Christian writers often find themselves confined by a self-imposed limitation, cloaked in a spiritual cocoon. Christian writers often face unique challenges. They may feel confined by a sense of spiritual constraint, believing that their writing should only serve a religious purpose. However, breaking free from these constraints allows them to explore broader themes and reach a wider audience.

The Importance of Vision

The concept of “writing the vision, making it plain, and running with it” is about clarity and action. It means having a clear purpose for your writing and taking steps to bring that vision to life. When you write with purpose, your words have the power to influence and inspire others. Purposeful writing isn’t just about personal fulfilment; it’s about investing in others. Your words can provide guidance, encouragement, and inspiration to those who read them. By sharing your insights, you contribute to the collective knowledge and help others on their journeys.

Transcend Personal Journaling

While journaling is not inherently wrong, keeping valuable insights to oneself is akin to lighting a candle and hiding it under a bushel. Journaling is a valuable practice for personal reflection, but purposeful writing involves sharing your insights with others. Your writing has the power to inspire, educate, and create change. By moving beyond personal journaling, you can make a positive impact on a wider audience. Writing can be a powerful tool for ministry. By sharing your faith and insights through various platforms—such as books, blogs, and articles—you can inspire and uplift others. Your writing can serve as a beacon of hope and encouragement.

Creating Spiritual and Economic Value

Christian writers have the potential to create both spiritual and economic value. By sharing their unique perspectives, they contribute to the spiritual growth of their readers while also generating income from their writing. Striking a balance between these two aspects can lead to a fulfilling and impactful writing career.

Celebrating Small Wins

The path to becoming a successful writer is filled with challenges, but it’s important to celebrate your small wins along the way. Whether it's finishing a blog post, receiving positive feedback, or gaining publication, each milestone serves as a step towards your larger goals.

Continual Learning and Growth

Writing is a continuous learning process. Stay curious and open to new ideas. Attend workshops, read widely, and seek feedback from peers. The more you learn and grow, the more your writing will evolve.

Building a Supportive Community

Surround yourself with a community of writers who can offer support, encouragement, and constructive feedback. Joining writing groups, online forums, and attending writing events can help you connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion.

In conclusion, the paradigm shift from “I can’t” to “I can” is essential for aspiring writers and freelance authors. By breaking free from self-doubt, writing with purpose, and recognising your creative potential, you can make a meaningful impact through your writing. Christian writers, in particular, have a unique opportunity to inspire and uplift others while creating both spiritual and economic value.

By making this paradigm shift, you’re not just transforming your writing—you’re transforming your life and the lives of those who read your work. Remember, your words have the power to create change. It's time to move beyond personal journaling and step into your purpose.
