GOOD NEWS

A close friend of mine, who I used to work with and have known for many years, sent me a Christmas card in the post, about a week and a half before Christmas Day, as she and her partner were going away to their house in France for a short break. I recognised her handwriting on the envelope, and put the card to one side, as I thought it was a bit early to open it, plus I hadn’t put my decorations up as yet, so I felt it could wait a while.

Some time later, I received a text from her saying that they were having a great time in France, and she also sent a photo of them raising their glasses of wine in the air.  This reminded me to open her card, as I hadn’t thanked her for it as yet.

When I opened it, I could not believe what I saw. It was a photo of both of them raising their glasses of wine in the air, and written above it said “Surprise! Save the Date!”  I was so excited and ran into the other room to tell John. What brilliant news! I immediately called to congratulate them, and we were so pleased to hear their good news.  They are not spring chickens, and they wouldn’t mind me saying so.  They met later in life, and have been together for many years, so this has made it extra-special, as she is in her late 60’s and he has just turned 70!

It really made me think about how important it is to hear good news and how it makes us feel so happy. Laughter is medicine for the soul. The world today seems to be full of negative things on the news and TV channels, which seem to lack the humour that we and past generations have grown up with. People are living in fear every day with what they are seeing and hearing about on social media.  We can let all these things get the better of us, or we can get the better of them!  2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Power, and of Love, and of a Sound Mind” (NKJV).

So, no matter what we are seeing going on around us, remember, Jesus said not to be afraid. God gave us His revelation of the end times to make us aware and encourage us, not to make us afraid.  Jesus said, all these things must happen before His return, so we should rejoice that His return is near, although He said we would not know the date, which only His Father in Heaven knows, but He said we would know by the signs of the times.

So here’s to 2025! A good joyful, positive year ahead for us all, filled with blessings from God and lots of good news, and, getting those books finished and published.

God bless.
