In Times of Trouble by Wendy H. Jones

As I write this blog in May 2020 we are in the middle of lockdown due to Coronavirus. You're probably thinking, we all know that, and your right. However, I'm hoping this post might be evergreen. As writers, and readers, we cannot have escaped the fact that the publishing industry is in disarray. Bookshops are closed, book launches are being postponed and publishers have had to shut up shop (physically) and move what they can to a work from home scenario. This leaves authors who  are launching books or, indeed, selling existing books, in a difficult position.
Thankfully, readers can still buy books digitally and ebook sales are increasing, maybe not exponentially, but at least increasing. Bookshops are also sending out copies of paperbacks where they have stock. People are looking for things to do and are discovering or rediscovering a love for reading. Therefore, I thought I would give a little bit of help to a few of my ACW friends in this blog. In times of trouble things go a lot better if we all work together. I thought I would highlight two of our members who have launched, or are launching books during April and May,

The Healing Knife by Sue Russell

To Rachel Keyte death is the enemy. The early loss of her beloved father from heart failure ignited a single-minded determination in her: to save as many patients as she can, and to become a consultant before the age of forty. Everything else - friendship, love, empathy - is sacrificed to her obsession. Now Rachel's surgical skills are twelve-year-old Craig's only hope for a normal life. His mother Eve holds a deep distrust of doctors, and her son is all she has. Reluctantly, she agrees for the operation to go ahead. But surgery is never predictable, nor is a devastated mother's terrifying reaction. Eve, it seems, wants a life for life...

Miss What Does Incomprehensible Mean by Fran Hill

Fran Hill's memoir of a year in a teacher's life - 'Miss, What Does Incomprehensible Mean?' will be released on 21 May by SPCK Publishing. It's a funny, life-affirming memoir, in diary form. Set in the manic world of a busy teacher, and based on real experiences, this account of one typical year shows it's not just the pupils who misbehave.

The Victoria Wood of the classroom! - Adrian Plass

A fascinating, highly entertaining, vital insight into a teacher’s life. Funny but heart-felt - Fran’s riveting account of life in front of the class shows us a glimpse of the humanity and heart that goes into such a familiar but misunderstood role. A thoroughly recommended memoir.- Paul Kerensa, author and stand-up comedian

Whilst we are at it, this is a fabulous time to support bookshops who are still sending out physical copies of books, and also online Christian Retailers. Here are some links that I recommend

It's time for us to pull together, to support each other and to show love to one another. WE can get through this if we all work together.
