Procrastination
During this time of Lent, I listened to a Sermon just a couple of days ago to do with looking at ourselves with regard to procrastination. The Pastor asked us to think about the things we have been putting off, and try to put them into action this week. Not all at once of course, but just pick out one or two things that have been on our hearts.
One of the main things I could think about, was something that God spoke to me about quite a few years ago to do with starting a small business, using the gift he had given me. I have come to understand that God speaks to us in many different ways, sometimes it can be with His still, quite voice, other times it’s a strong feeling that you just go with straight away, and that is how it was at the time I am talking about, it was so quick and positive, I just knew it was God talking because, for one, I had asked Him a question, and He gave me an answer there and then. He even gave me the name of the business to use. At the time I was so excited and enthusiastic I started it straight away, designing and making the products, but had not got as far as starting a website or anything like that, as I had come to a standstill when it came to technology. How am I to go about starting a website, I thought, I am not that great when it comes to this sort of thing, but I knew that God would put me in the right direction as He had given me the idea in the first place, and He will finish what He started. But it was also up to me to do my part.
Time went by and I kept thinking about how to get the website started, market and get the products out there. I was working at the time and life was, and still is, so busy, so I shelved it for a while.
Years have gone by, I have now retired, and I have all the stock ready to continue, but no business idea for the website.
So for my week of not procrastinating, I thought I would get a website set up and look into ways of promoting my new business, so I started looking at free websites that I had been advised to look into, but then I noticed the small-print “free for the first year”. This was another stumbling block for me. I needed hours of time to read all the pages, to make sure that it wasn't a scam, before I could start, but I didn’t have the time this week. People that I could ask to help me with it were busy themselves and I didn’t want to take up their time. So it has been left, again, I keep asking myself, when am I going to do all this, and what will I say to God one day if I never get to do it? He gave me a unique idea, a blessing, and what have I done with it. So much for me getting past my procrastination this week.
For years I procrastinated about writing a book. I wrote down lots of ideas whenever they came to mind, or God inspired me. Then, one day out of the blue, a miracle happened to my mother, and there was the inspiration to write her testimony, so I wrote the book, it was completed and on sale in bookshops and the internet within a few months, and I have not used any of the ideas or writings on the papers that I have gathered for so many years. Hopefully they will find their use one day.
So although I still found this business task quite a lot to get on top of within a week, I did manage to sort out a few smaller things that needed doing, so it wasn't wasted.
God bless
Lovely post, Derrice and congratulations! This is a big testimony that tells me that God's way is not our way! His plans for us are for good at the right time when he makes all things beautiful. May your mother's soul continue to rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord. Amen. Quick question: How did you get your book into bookshops? Blessings.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sophia. Amen 🙏
ReplyDeleteAt the time I wrote lots of letters to bookshops and phoned them directly and also went in personally to some Christian bookshops who took my book there and then as I had copies with me and the bookshops could order them directly from Amazon. Some bookshops had accounts with ingramspark, so they looked it up on their system and ordered them directly from them. I originally did my book with a company called Amazon Publishing Pros and they got it into bookshops worldwide as well as on line.
I hope this helps Sophia but let me know if you need anything else. God bless.
