Which Social Media Platforms Should Authors Use in 2025? by Brendan Conboy

As writers, we don’t just want to put words on a page—we want those words to reach hearts. Social media gives us that chance. It’s not about shouting into the void; it’s about sharing your story where people are already gathered. With billions logging in each month, social media is the biggest mission field for our words since the printing press!

So where should you focus your energy? Let’s look at the top four platforms and how authors can use them to market books and share testimonies.

1. Facebook (3.07 billion monthly users)
Think of Facebook as the neighbourhood coffee shop—it’s where people connect and gather. Authors can start a Facebook Page to share updates, or better yet, build a Group around their book’s theme. Write devotionals? Start a prayer group. Share memoirs? Invite readers into a storytelling community. And don’t overlook Facebook ads—they can put your book in front of exactly the right readers.

2. YouTube (2.5–2.7 billion users)
Video is powerful; it’s the world’s second-biggest search engine. Imagine readers finding you when they search “how to share your testimony” or “Christian encouragement.” You don’t need fancy equipment—just a phone, your voice, and your story. Record short readings from your book, offer tips for aspiring writers, or share behind-the-scenes glimpses of your faith journey.

3. WhatsApp (2–3 billion users)
This one surprises many authors! WhatsApp is less about broadcasting and more about relationships. You can create a WhatsApp group for your launch team, send updates to prayer partners, or even share devotionals straight from your book. It’s like having a direct line to your most engaged supporters.

4. Instagram (2–2.35 billion users)
If Facebook is the coffee shop, Instagram is the art gallery. Beautiful visuals catch the eye, and authors can use posts, Stories, and Reels to bring words to life. Share quotes from your book, short video reflections, or snapshots of your writing process. Readers love getting a peek behind the curtain!

The takeaway? Social media isn’t about algorithms—it’s about people. Each platform gives us new ways to connect, encourage, and point others to the hope we’ve found. Use it wisely, and your story can travel farther than you ever dreamed.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and how you are using social media to connect with your audience. If you aren’t, why not?
