Our Work as Writers by Wendy H. Jones

I was listening to Joanna Penn's excellent podcast today and the following bible verse was mentioned

ECC 2:24 A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God

The point that was being made in the podcast was that God made us for both pleasure and work. This got me thinking about the work that we do as writers. God chose us to be writers and to enjoy the work that we do. He made us to be creative and to be passionate about our work in this sphere. He has placed us here for a reason and a purpose. I am sure you are all aware of the peaks and troughs of joy and despair in the writing journey. Joy when things are going well and despair when we can't seem to find an original word to write.

Yet overall it is a joy and a privilege to be a writer. To create books, stories, articles which bring so much enjoyment to many. To choose words and join them together in such a way that drags readers in and keeps them reading. I am sure this resonates with all those reading this blog.

I want to encourage you today. What you do matters. The books you write matter. They matter to God and they matter to you. They also matter to me as a reader. May you be richly blessed in your writing life today, this week and in all the weeks yet to come. Thank you to each and every one of you for what you do.
