Turmoil and Trust

 Turmoil and Trust

The roses had never looked better. Their colour and scent rejoiced in the warm air. And then the wind came roaring off the sea and up the estuary, making the silver birch trunks lean away from it, as it  snatched at the leaves, pulling and tugging and tormenting.... and reminding me.

Sometimes we can actually do very little. We write a story/poem/chapter/treatise/report, and then out it goes, into the hands of an agent/publisher/reader, and/or into the mind of someone who cannot know the effort each word has cost, someone who may or may not understand the heart and soul we have poured into it. Or if they do know/guess the effort, or can empathise with the effort, they won’t remember it for long, because this is the generation that doesn’t linger. It’s the generation that moves on.

I suppose that is the way it has always been. And yet… each person in each generation has to find God for himself/herself/themselves. God doesn’t change, but the human perspective of God can change. The human perspective of stories and myths can change, and each new generation of writers has the opportunity of expressing their own individual understanding of God.

Thought for the day perhaps?

Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 34, verse 8. Written between 1010 and 930 BC

Do not write to show that you are right about God.

Write and show that the Lord is good.

Adapted from Psalm 34. Written 2024

 Veronica Bright likes writing, singing, walking in wild places, bird-watching,            playing the piano, and gardening. She approves of rewilding, but not to the extent that the weeds are currently cheering about. Her family members are used to the fact that she talks to strangers. She has many faults which you would find boring, so the least said the better.

  1. Good morning Veronica, I am very taken by the line 'do not write to show that you are right about God. Write and show that the Lord is good.' That is definitely a thought I will ponder on today.

  3. I enjoyed that Veronica - and I couldn't help but think that 'the generation that doesn't linger' is a perfect line for a rap-artist to do some lexical gymnastics! Where's Brendan?

  4. Lovely post, Veronica! Thanks. 'Write to show that God is good!' I really love this. From Psalm 34, we named our daughter, Chiasoka - God is sweet. Adapted from Psalm 34 - Taste and se that the Lord is good. God is good all the time! Blessings.
