I can only imagine...Part 2

"You will seek Me
and find Me when you
search for me with
all your heart."

               Jeremiah 29:13

In July I drifted awake sensing I was dancing to music with a partner.  In those seconds the words of the song 'I Can Only Imagine' came to mind. ‘I’ll dance with you Jesus.’ What a privilege and wonder that felt.  After spending time with the Lord I listened to the song on the internet and wept, not knowing why beyond being a child of God and the joy that has been set before me.

This was in the midst of my contending for tthe life of Esther Moore, daughter, wife and mother to a boy with Down Syndrome. A wonderful worship leader, songstress. photojournalist and writer with a blog about being a cancer warrior.  It’s been said, ‘Esther brightens every space she enters’, and I’d add, ‘with the ability to make everyone feel her friend’.  The lyrics of her songs reflect her faith in the midst of trauma bringing an anointing and hope when all seems lost.

After birthing Caleb, she stood for the inclusion of Downs Syndrome children in society while suffering a miscarriage after being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.  Four years later, two mastectomies, a regime of healthy foods, she’d a lump in her lungs.  Throughout she remained radiant in her love of the Lord.

Known and loved by hundreds, if not a thousand people across the world when no further treatment was available in UK and Israel a ‘go-fund’ project started for innovative DNA treatment in the USA..  In two months  £100,000 was raised and our church rejoiced with the news the lump had shrunk from the size of a grapefruit to an avocado.   Days later we heard that Sepsis and Pneumonia had beset her and she was on life support.  When the doctors recommend that be turned off her husband asked to wait two days until her parents arrived.  Many prayed for resurrection life so we were thrilled to hear the very next day that the doctors’ were astonished as her eyes opened, she was able to breath on her own, and had sat up to eat porridge.

After a time of recovery preparation was made for her to come home, but delayed as doctors were worried her lungs might not be strong enough to endure the flight. People are continuing to give as the hospital bill is astronomical.  Next we heard she was back on life support, and people had an all night vigil to contend for her life.  Again, prayer was answered as she rallied round.  Two nights later her husband was awakened with a start from sleep, felt something had changed, and went to her. In his arms Esther said, ‘God is good’ and passed from his arms into those of Jesus.

In her resurrection life I can only imagine her in her white dress, her bright eyes gazing into those of Jesus, her face radiant, her smile of great joy, and ‘if she could speak at all’ her words would surely be of her love of Him.  I recommend listening to her songs, and reading her blog, just put her name into Google.

  1. Thank you for this Ruth. I've just checked out Esther's blog. Moving and hard to read, especially as my wife Eva has her own cancer story. I love that song especially as it's a powerful example of what may very well happen when I meet Jesus for the first time. Bless you and thanks again :)
