Write about it; write about it; write about it: It’s a Justice issue! by Trevor Thorn

I make no apology for returning to the theme of Climate justice. At the beginning of this week, Pam, my wife and I attended a two day conference called ‘Once in a Lifetime’ organised by the Amos Trust. Amos work with some of the world’s poorest and most disadvantaged communities. To quote their publicity material 'We are a small, creative human rights organisation. We challenge injustice, build hope & create change'.

Inevitably, with such a vision, Amos Trust has become acutely aware of the massive impact that climate change IS HAVING - note; not will have, IS HAVING on the poorest and least able to advocate for themselves, and the way this trend is growing exponentially right now.

Amos had gathered representatives from Christian Aid, Friends of the Earth, Operation Noah, 1010 (Ten, ten), SEED, Extinction Rebellion and other organisations, all of whom repeated the message of the urgency of tackling Climate Change which involves being prepared to challenge the broken world order that has brought us to this point.

Every presentation brought fresh aspects to reflect on but the greatest energy came from the group of young people (from Year 8 to 24yo) who are looking to the older generations to wake up to the seriousness of the threat we and they are all under.

So this is where writers can come in: the situation needs every possible advocate to wake politicians, investors and business executives to the problems that need urgently addressing. I write this making an assumption that every author or would-be author gets involved in writing short articles alongside their main work for community, parish or special interest magazines/ eMagazines. Her, then, are real opportunities such as this one I have taken!

Twitter feeds make it clear that there are (too) many who reject the claim that the actions of humankind are causing the problems. What a shame it is not realised by such twitterers that scientists of every major nations academies are crystal clear that the climate extremes we are witnessing  are among many, many other pointers to the urgency of our need to make changes.

So, will you add your voice and thereby support the younger generation (maybe you are among them) in their  brilliant ‘wake up’ activities? If you do, you will give them encouragement and affirmation to continue and maybe intensify their efforts to bring urgency to the issue. And in addition you will be helping to bring justice to millions whose voices are constantly suppressed.

If you care about justice - write!
If you care about the future of our planet - write!
If you care about the upcoming generations - write!
If you care about the loss of animal, insect and plant species (daily!) - write!
If you care for your neighbours - write!
