Christmas Matters: In the Midst... By Wendy H Jones

It's that time of the year when the whole world goes crazy. Christmas is fast approaching and Black Friday and Cyber Monday still linger. The shopping frenzy ramps up as everyone buys gifts which others will, hopefully, find meaningful. Why am I talking about this on a Christian writing blog, I hear you ask. It's an excellent question. One which I will get to in a moment.

Here in Scotland, it is also Book Week Scotland. This is a fabulous time of author events, book readings and celebration of all things Scottish and Literary. For the past two weeks I have had events nearly every day. It has been glorious whirlwind of author talks, book signings and a laugh out loud Murder and Mayhem Tour. This is a bunch of crime writers having fun and involving the audience in an hour of hapless acting. Book week Scotland is a showcase for the works of Scottish authors, and The Scottish Book Trust, libraries and bookshops should be applauded for this.

As authors this can be our busies time of year. Books are always welcome as presents and our sales can be high. I have bought a number of books as presents, especially those by my friends and fellow authors. I see it as a way to support others in the crime writing community, in the Scottish writing community, and in the Christian writing community.

As Christians we know that there is a different meaning for our Christmas celebrations. We are here to celebrate the birth of Christ, and this should be the focus of our attention. We should not forget that. However, I urge you to also consider Christian writers this Christmas. Support your local Christian bookshop and buy a book from them. CLC in Dundee will certainly be getting my support this year.

Three of our very own ACW members have had books out recently, and the covers below will give you more details. I appreciate there may be more and I am happy for anyone to post their recent release in the comments.

If it's a book for children or young adults you are looking for then ACW members have it covered.

I wish you a blessed Christmas and will be back in the New Year. Remember, in the midst of the business, take time to relax, and remember what Christmas is all about.

  3. Thanks so much for including The Death Beat, Wendy! And if I may be so bold, I have a Christmas book out for children - David and the Never Ending Kingdom - which retells the nativity story through a dream. http://mytitles.net/fiona-veitch-smith-david-and-the-neverending-kingdom?uid=2745

  4. ACW is costing me a fortune! There are so many great books to choose from. I can recommend Taking Off The Mask and Destiny's Revenge - and I'm hoping that I might find at least one of the others under my Christmas tree. Could I be cheeky and mention my own book, The Diary of a (Trying to be Holy) Mum? It's not officially out until January, but I'll be getting my copies next Friday...
