Writing and Reading by Wendy H. Jones
This blog is called More Than Writers, which is true in many senses. Today, I am interpreting that as, we are also readers. Voracious readers in most cases. In fact, it is considered mandatory for a writer to read, if one takes Stephen King's sentiments to heart.
“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.”
Stephen King
If you're reading this blog, I could bet my granny on the fact that you spend a lot of time choosing just the right book to read. I know I do. Now, without trying to make anyone jealous, I am going to the United States for six weeks in August/September this year. It's a road trip with two authors from Virginia and West Virginia and we're covering a bunch of East Coast States. That's a lot of books to think about. Usually, when I go abroad, I read books from the area I visit. However, with 15 stops, that's a lot of places to think about. My head is spinning.
So, I'm asking for help from the readers of this blog. Put one book, including a link, that you have written, in the comments and I will buy several of them. If you are a publisher, put one book from your publishing house in the comments.
However, let's not stop there. Readers, why not take a look at the books in the comments and buy one book to take on holiday with you. Or order it from your local library. If you are not going away, buy one as summer reading, there's always a reason to read. Let's open ourselves up to new authors and new possibilities. As I'm writing the blog, I'll put mine here. If you buy mine, awesome. I'm just about to put the price up so it's a bargain at the moment. If not, that's cool, take a look at the books in the comments.
Have a great summer and my next blog will come to you from Heathrow Airport. Until next time.

ReplyDeleteSounds great, Wendy. And that's a very generous offer on your part. Here's the link to my book Aquila – Can Silvanus Escape That God? https://www.books2read.com/Aquila
ReplyDeleteSilvanus is a young lad intent on becoming a man. When his God Aquila smiles on him, Silvanus finds a cave of precious gems. His dreams of buying a boat and fleeing his island home are that much closer! Instead, a series of events lead Silvanus to the bizarre old hermit, Cerbonius. His uncanny wisdom causes Silvanus to question everything he knows about the world, and he discovers his ambitions are far too small.
P.S. I'm Viktor Steiner, writing as Vince Rockston

DeleteThanks Wendy, if you want a magical noir mystery then you could do worse than my Witch of Empire books:

Books about the US: Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy - a great love story but also a political comment on the US after WWII. Anything by Francine Rivers - latest (can't remember the title) or Karen Kingsbury's 'Tuesday night' (again can't remember the title but it's about 9/11 so may not be the most cheerful reading but it's very good!)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Wendy for this lovely idea and I shall be thinking of you as you jet over the pond. I hope you gave a great time! Here's my link for A Passionate Spirit which you may not have read yet. Amzn.to/2TecvHU
ReplyDeleteLink to my novel Baby, Baby on Amazon (you could buy from the website but Amazon will give you a lower price I've just looked they are at £7.99) ... So that should encourage you to buy!

Great post, Wendy. I'll post with my publisher's rather than my writer's hat on and recommend Chick Yuill's The Man Who Broke into St Peter's: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/190972887X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_h1OgDb0EK73C4
