Two Little Dicky Birds... by Mandy Baker Johnson
Earlier this month, my friend Elizabeth and I went on holiday to the wilds of Norfolk.
Without wanting to sound super-spiritual or boring, one of our favourite things is praying together. There is something exciting and exhilarating about enjoying God with a trusted friend.... Anything can happen. And sometimes it does!
After one delightful session of prayer, I went into the kitchen to make coffee. I glanced out of the window while waiting for the kettle to boil.
Two birds were sitting on the telephone wires twittering away for all they were worth. It was beautiful. They were so carefree, perched there, merrily doing what they were created to do. Such small, fragile creatures, insignificant really, yet delighting the heart of the One who made them. They are not beneath His attention; nothing about them escapes His notice.
I saw Elizabeth and me in a different light....
Two middle-aged ladies sitting in a caravan, talking and singing to their Father for all they were worth. It was beautiful. They left their burdens at His throne and brought down spiritual strongholds as they worshiped and enjoyed being with Daddy-God, doing what they were created to do. Such fragile humans, insignificant really, yet delighting the heart of the One who died to know them.
Praying, I saw that morning, was similar to those birds singing. The birds had no power of their own, it's ridiculous to think it. Nor do we have power of our own. Move a mountain? Yeah, right! I can't even unscrew a tight lid off a jar! To the uninitiated, prayer can sound pointless, a waste of breath, just words. We are as powerless as birds to do miracles or change impossible circumstances.
It's all about who we pray to. God is almighty, all-powerful, full of wisdom and grace. He can bring down strongholds when we pray. He can move mountains when we pray. It's not about us. It's never about us. It's all about Him.
Praying is about having faith in a big God who does miracles and loves us to bits.

That's a great comparison, Mandy. And I was smiling at your list of tags and can't wait to find out who Googles 'two little dicky birds' and gets your blog post!
