Of Clouds and Chariots

My prayer partner Elizabeth looked at me with glowing eyes and said: 'God rides His chariot in the clouds!'

We both love the sky; her next-door-neighbour shows her stars and planets through his telescope. When on holiday recently, we revelled in some glorious sunsets from our vantage point on the decking. One morning I woke up to a note on the table: '3.30 am - stars awesome'.

I was reminded of her comment when Adi and I flew to Berlin. Gazing out of the plane window, I revelled in the fluffy white cotton wool clouds. My heart leapt and a smile played on my lips. What a God who rides on the clouds on His majesty.

The summer of 2013 was tough for me. I felt fragile and vulnerable. Could God be trusted? Did He
know what I was going through? I turned to Psalm 18 which describes God as getting angry on our behalf when we are in unjust situations and being bullied by enemies. In poetic language, it shows Him almost tearing apart the universe in His haste to reach His hurting children.

After reading that, I was comforted and strengthened. My situation didn't immediately change - that took a few months - but I rested in the fact that God knew all about it and He cared and was helping me.

There is no one like the God of Jeshurun [the upright, the beloved], who rides across the heavens to help you, and on the clouds in His majesty.
Deut 33:26 (NIV)

  1. I also love the sky and how it shows God's glory. Thank you also for reminding me of Psalm 18. It is a helpful reminder for something else that I am looking into at the moment. God bless you

  3. I've tried to post this comment twice! Let's hope it works this time...So glad someone else senses God in clouds :) My mind is always seeing pictures/images in them, particularly when travelling, and somehow God speaks through them. Great post, Mandy.
